The social representations of students about water and the environment are indicative of
their ideas about these concepts. The objective was to investigate and discuss the social
representations of water and environment with the students of a 6th grade class in a public
school in Foz do Iguaçu/PR in 2019. The study was carried out based on bibliographic
research and qualitative approach, contemplating a reflection on water theory, environment
and social representations, as well as a field survey with students, with drawings and oral
socialization of ideas. It was found that although some students represented water in the
environment in a harmonic relationship, others mentioned the issue of water pollution and
contamination. The same was found in relation to the concept of environment, in which most
students represented the dissociation of society and nature when it comes to the term
environment and also the idea of being human as harmful to natural elements in the
environment. It was concluded that it is still necessary to work on environmental education
from the perspective of water and collective health. Likewise, it is important to contemplate
practices that discuss the environment as a set composed of natural and social elements,
without dissociating nature and society in geography classes
