This paper seeks understanding about the concept of development and the
relationship between education and economic development and how these
relationships affect the distribution of income and social development of people.
Therefore we carried out a literature review research that seeks to define the themes
and relate them from various theoretical perspectives. Besides, looking to
differentiate the concepts of growth and economic development, this paper will
explain the Theory of Human Capital, which has Theodore W. Schultz as exponent,
its formulations regarding the relationship between education and development and
the critical adjacent to it. Also expected to demonstrate that the difficulty of access to
education and the poor quality of public education result in a higher level of social
inequality, so that people with higher levels of education absorb a higher share of
income, accentuating income inequality. Facing the theories revisited in this work, it
is understood that education is an important aspect to understand the process of
economic development
