The 2,5-Furanedicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is one of the oxidation products of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and has several applications in the chemical industry, including the possibility of being converted into polyethylene furanoate (PEF). This work aimed at the synthesis of HMF from agroindustrial residues, as well as the preliminary analysis of possible synthetic routes for the conversion of HMF to FDCA. The reactive conditions for FDCA production proposed in this study were set by using an automotive catalyst, pH between 9.0 and 10.0, temperature of 70ºC and atmospheric air as an oxygen source.
